TEHRAN (IQNA) – The city of Ras al-Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates is hosting a Quran competition for expatriates residing in the Arab country.

The preliminary stage of the competition’s 18th edition is underway with the participation of those with different nationalities residing in the UAE, al-Ittihad daily reported.

The men’s section began on Wednesday, January 3, and will run for five days, the report said.

More than 760 men are taking part in the preliminary section for men.

The competition for women will get underway on Tuesday and run for four days.

The final stage is planned to be held in February with the participation of top contenders of the preliminary round.

Ahemd Ibrahim Sabeean, head of Ras al-Khaimah Quran Award, hailed the enthusiastic reception of the Quranic event by expatriates.

He noted that the contest is annually organized under the supervision of the ruler of Ras al-Khaimah.
