TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s contender in the 16th edition of Tunisia international Quran contest described the level of the competition as high.

Speaking to IQNA upon his arrival at the Imam Khomeini (RA) International Airport in Tehran, Mohammad Hassan Movahedi, who finished runner-up in the recitation category of the contest, said he deserved to win the top prize.

The level of participants in this edition was good but none of the contenders in the category of recitation posed a serious challenge, he said.

“In my talks with the Moroccan member of the panel of judges, he told me that Iran’s contender had the best recitation in the contest, but for whatever reason the top rank was not given to me,” Movahedi said.

He further hailed the interactions among the participants from various countries during the six-day event.

The 2018 edition of Tunisia’s international Quran competition was held in the North African country on December 8-13.

Named after Allamah Bin Arafah, the competition was held in the city of Carthage.

Quran reciters and memorizers from 31 countries competed in the two categories of the event.

In memorization and interpretation, the representative of Tunisia bagged the top prize.

In recitation, Abdeljalil Bouski from Morocco came first while Iran’s Movahedi and Turkey’s Lutfi Turhan jointly won the second rank.
