Disclosing One’s Coronavirus Infection A Religious Duty: Iran’s President
Speaking at a meeting of the National Headquarters for Fighting Coronavirus in Tehran on Saturday, Rouhani said it is a religious duty to inform others, especially relatives and colleagues, of one’s infection.
One may contract the disease for any reason and if one does get infected with COVID-19, he or she should reveal it to others and quarantine themselves for two weeks to save the lives of people, the president added.
He also underlined observing the health protocols, including wearing face masks in all public places, in order to stem the spread of the disease.
Earlier in the day, the Health Ministry’s spokeswoman said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in the country has risen to 237,878 following the detection of 2,449 new cases since Friday.
Sima Sadat Lari put the death toll from the coronavirus in Iran at 11,408, saying the disease has taken the lives of 148 patients over the past 24 hours.
Classified a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the new coronavirus emerged in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei Province late last year.
More than 11.2 million people have now been confirmed with the coronavirus globally, of whom more than 524,000 have died.
