TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some 500 memorizers from 12 provinces of Iraq are taking part in the preliminary stage of an annual Quran memorization competition.

This is the sixth edition of the contest, which is annually organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Education Center of the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine in Karbala and its branches in different parts of the country, according to Dar-alQuran.org website.

Ali Hadi Kadhim, the head of the center, said the competition is being held in two sections for men and women.

The preliminary round began on Wednesday, June 2, and will continue for two weeks, he said.

In this stage, Kadhim said, the contenders go to the center and its branches for evaluation of their memorization mastery.

He noted that a committee set up by the Astan supervises the organization of the competition and evaluation of the Quran memorizers taking part in it.
