The presiding council of Egypt's Quran Reciters Association has revoked the membership of four Qaris in the association.

The decision was made on Saturday and the reason cited for banning these Quran reciters from the association was announced to their trip to Iran and Iraq and reciting Adhan (call to prayers)the Shia style, Al-Bawaba news reported.

Sheikh Ahmed Ahmed Noaina, Sheikh Taha Muhammad Al-Numani, Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Wahhab Tantawi and Sheikh Yasser Abdul Basit Abdul Samad are the four banned reciters, Sheikh Muhammad Tablawi, head of the association said.
Tablawi asserted that the decision was aimed at upholding Egypt's security and safeguarding the  status of Egypt, principles of Sunni Islam and the style of Al-Azhar Islamic center "which is based on moderation …"
He added that by banning the four reciters, the association sought to dissuade them from taking any more trips to the two Shia-majority countries.
Farajullah Shazli is another prominent Egyptian Quran reciter who had been banned from the association earlier.
