TEHRAN (IQNA) – A law in Turkey that prohibited printing and selling Quran translations and other books in Kurdish has been repealed.

It means that authors and translators who could not publish their works in the Kurdish language have to wait no longer.
Professor Ahmed Aqir Akja, a scholar with the University of Mardin, hailed the move, saying that it would give Kurdish cleric the freedom to publish religious books, including Quran translations, IRNA reported.
According to some estimates, Kurds compose some 16 percent of the population in Turkey. Unlike the Turkish people, the Kurds speak Kurdish, which an Indo-European language.
There are Kurds living in all provinces of Turkey, but they are primarily concentrated in the east and southeast of the country.
Last month, Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs said it would publish the first official Kurdish translation of the Quran.
