TEHRAN (IQNA) – A forum on “phonetics and its influence on Tajweed” was held by the Dar-ol-Quran of Women affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Ali (AS) in Najaf, Iraq.

According to Qaaf news agency, Manaf Mahdi Al-Mousawi, a Kufa University instructor, was the speaker at the program.

He said that Quran teaching should be based on correct teaching methods and rules of recitation including Tajweed principles.

Phonetics plays an important role in Tajweed and they are complementary, the teacher added.

Phonetics is a branch of linguistics that studies the sounds of human speech. It is concerned with the physical properties of speech sounds or signs: their physiological production, acoustic properties, auditory perception, and neurophysiological status.

In the context of the recitation of the Quran, Tajweed is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation.
