The Quranic movement is spreading in Iraq with two approaches of elitism and strengthening the grassroots dimension.

This is according to Sheikh Bassim al-Abidi, Quranic affairs director of the Martyr of Mihrab Institute in the Iraqi city of Najaf, speaking at a forum on Quranic activities and Quranic studies in contemporary Iraq.
Al-Abidi said that in the contemporary era, Quranic activities have spread since the fall of Saddam Hussein but there is still need for strong resolve and a strategy for supporting these activities.
He said the current Quranic movement in Iraq has not emerged just recently but the country has been a base of major Quranic activities since the advent of Islam.
Al-Abidi noted that Iraq has had two deep-rooted Quranic schools one in the city of Basra and the other in Kufa, adding that the two schools have produced invaluable Quranic works.
He referred to the seminary school of Najaf as a center with numerous Quranic achievements since its establishment, saying that the Ala-ul-Rahman Exegesis of the Holy Quran by Allameh Ballaqi is just one of such achievements in the field of Quran interpretation.
The forum on Quranic activities and studies in contemporary Iraq was held Sunday night at the 22nd International Holy Quran Exhibition in Tehran.
