Iran's Vice President and Head of the Environmental Protection Organization said there is a treasury of remarkable teachings in Islam about the environment.

Speaking to IQNA, Masoumeh Ebtekar added that much of this treasure is little known.
She urged that the Islamic seminaries, universities and research centers should strive to promote these teachings for protection of the environment.
Islam insistently draws our attention to the sacred and spiritual dimension of nature. It teaches us that we are created by God and that we shall return to Him in order to give account for our actions.
We are God’s vicegerents on the earth; it has been given us in trust. Just as we are not the lords of nature and the world, so the world is not our property which we can dispose of as we wish or as we are able. Nature was created by God and it belongs to God. Everything in nature is a sign of God’s existence and should therefore be protected.
