The council’s first meeting was held on Thursday in the holy city of Makkah, the Tafsir website reported.
20 prominent Qaris from different parts of the Muslim world attended the meeting, which was chaired by Secretary General of the Muslim World League Abdullah Bin Abdulmohsen Al-Turki.
He said the council has been founded with the aim of promoting the role of Qaris is teaching Quran recitation and Tajweed.
During the Thursday meeting, there were also discussions on publishing a magazine on Quran recitation.
Abdullah Ali Bosfor has been appointed as the Secretary General of the World Council of Quran Reciters.
