TEHRAN (IQNA) – The two-day World Halal Day focusing on various aspects of halal trade and hospitality as an emerging global trend began in India’s Puducherry on Sunday.

Participants from the Middle East and across the globe comprising theological scholars, entrepreneurs, environmental scientists, social activists and halal certifying bodies deliberated on developing and understanding halal as a sustainable and ethical way of living during the event.

Inaugurating the Halal lifestyle festival 2015, Mohamed Jina, Chairman of the United World Halal Development said the World Halal Day has been drafted by intellectuals and theological people, the Hindu reported.

Halal is a misunderstood concept especially in India and it belongs to mankind. Halal is no longer meat and is a lifestyle.

The main objective of the World Halal Day is to facilitate a halal friendly environment and take forward these themes: Ensure food for all, Unite against hunger, One human community and Preserve nature.

Jamal Al-Shehab, former Justice Minister of Kuwait said that halal style of life should be the base for unity and not base for conflict and dispute. Halal is more than meat and a normal human being should follow the halal lifestyle. Though I am not part of the halal industry I am a believer in this concept, he said.

Hamdhan Mohmed Al-Murshidi, Chairman, Arab Business Club said that the halal tourism sector was ever increasing with Malaysia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates topping the charts as favorite destination for Muslim travelers.

A number of countries are now catering to the needs of Muslim travelers by providing halal food, prayer facilities and separate swimming pools for men and women.

The world’s Muslim population is expected to increase from 1.7 billion to 2.2 billion by 2030 projecting an increase in halal tourism, he added.
