TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (PU-OIC) denounced the recent acts of Quran desecration in Europe.

OIC Parliamentary Union

In a statement released at the end of the 17th session of the PU-OIC meeting in Algiers, Algeria, the 57 member states strongly condemned the pre-planned burning of the Quran in Sweden, Denmark and the Netherlands.

Such measures are heinous crimes and attacks on the most sacred sanctities of Muslims that hurt their sentiments in the name of freedom of expression, the statement read.

It added that such savage moves contradict all human and ethical values and principles.

The union called on the OIC to take the necessary measures in response to the provocative acts.

Over the past weeks, there have been numerous Quran burning incidents in several European countries.

They have drawn widespread condemnations from all over the Muslim world.

This blatant state-facilitation of anti-Islam extremism has also led many Muslims to feel vulnerable in a continent, which claims to defend minority and religious rights.

Elsewhere in the statement, the PU-OIC referred to the issue of Palestine, calling for an end to the Zionist regime’s continued violations of international law, including the regime’s repression of Palestinians and its illegal settlement building.

It also underlined the need for an end to the siege on the Gaza Strip.

The member states also reiterated their all-out support for the cause of Palestine and holy al-Quds.
