TEHRAN (IQNA) – Hundreds of mosques in Britain are participating in a week of action to raise awareness about al-Aqsa Mosque and the plight of the Palestinian people in the face of Israeli actions.

Al-Aqsa Mosque

Al-Aqsa, located in the Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds, is the third-holiest site in Islam.

Communities on five continents have taken part in educational talks, workshops and children activities, the Friends of al-Aqsa campaign group, which organized the events, said.

FOA chairman Dr Ismail Patel said: “In the context of increasing Israeli threat to al-Aqsa, it’s incredible to see so many individuals and communities coming together to spread awareness of al-Aqsa and the plight of Palestinians.”

The mosque, which is administered by Jordan, sits on a compound referred to by Jews as Temple Mount: the holiest place in the Jewish faith.

Recent years have seen incursions by ultra-nationalist Israeli settlers into the compound to pray, in provocation of Muslims in Palestine and around the world, and the Israeli government frequently restricts access to the mosque, sometimes by blocking the entrances to the complex.
