Pakistani Lawyers Observe Black Day in Protest at Quran Desecration in Sweden

ISLAMABAD (IQNA) – A black day was observed by lawyers in Pakistan’s Peshawar against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council had given the call. The lawyers had worn black armbands to record their protest against the sacrilegious act.

In a statement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council Vice Chairman Zar Badshah Khan and other office-bearers condemned the blasphemous act and criticized the Swedish government for allowing it to happen.

They said that this act of blasphemy had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.

The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) condemned the sacrilegious act in Sweden as well and demanded the government of Pakistan to sever diplomatic ties with Stockholm.

The association demanded that Pakistan should call back its ambassador from Stockholm.

PHCBA President Tariq Afridi said that it was a conspiracy to provoke the Muslims.

He said that the members of the lawyer community would boycott the court proceedings today (Tuesday) against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and in Kalyas area of the Charsadda.

Meanwhile, the residents of Sarwarabad in Nauthia locality staged a protest outside the Peshawar Press Club.

They demanded the government to take steps to stop the occurrence of such acts in the future. They demanded strict punishment for the blasphemer to make him an example for others.

The protesters said freedom of expression cannot be used as a pretext to hurt the feelings of the Muslims.

The lawyer community also staged a protest at Meezan Chowk in the Mardan city against the desecration of the Holy Quran.

The speakers said the Organization of Islamic Cooperation should play its role in bringing an end to deplorable and unacceptable acts that hurt the feelings of the Muslims Ummah.
