Millions Worldwide Voice Support for Palestine on Int'l Quds Day

IQNA – Millions of people across the globe took to the streets on Friday to slam the Israeli atrocities and voice their strong support for the oppressed Palestinians.

Every year on the last Friday of Ramadan, worldwide rallies are held to support the Palestinian people’s resistance against the Israeli regime and the struggle to liberate their territories, which have been occupied by the regime for decades.

International Quds Day is among the legacies of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who is revered as a spiritual leader by Muslims across the world. Back in 1979, shortly after leading an Islamic Revolution which toppled the US-backed Shah of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini named the last Friday of the fasting month of Ramadan the Quds Day.

This year's International Quds Day is being marked as the Israeli regime have been striking the besieged Gaza Strip in the past six months, killing more than 33,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, in what many international rights groups have described as genocide.

According to Iranian officials, 2,000 locations across the country witnessed massive Quds Day rallies. Protestors held the rallies before attending Friday prayers in their cities.

In the capital Tehran, hundreds of thousands convened in downtown Tehran to mark the event also to hold a funeral procession for seven Iranian military advisors who were killed in an Israeli terrorist strike against the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus on Monday.

From different walks of life and various social strata, the demonstrators also held the national flags of Iran and Palestine as well as banners that read, “Free Palestine,” and “Al-Quds must be liberated.”

Senior Iranian officials and military commanders also took part in Tehran rallies. They reiterated the support for Palestine and vowed to respond to the latest Israeli crime in killing military advisors.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raeisi said the cries of abhorrence expressed by the people "will definitely lead to the destruction of the Zionist regime and the elevation of the dignity of the Palestinian people and the Muslims of the world."

Rallies were also held in other countries such in Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Lebanon, and India. The rallies in some countries will be held on Sunday.
